The Centre has rejected a major recommendation of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) prohibiting the Government employees from hiring children below 14 years as domestic servants. NHRC sources said that though most of the states had responded favourably to the recommendation, the Union Government rejected it citing several reasons for not introducing the amendment.
