The Delhi Government has put its decision to ban commercial vehicles older than 15 years from the Capital's roads-a move expected to control vehicular pollution-on the back-burner, apparently prompted by an adverse fallout when elections to the Delhi Assembly are barely six months away. The government has decided to extend permits of autorickshaws and other commercial vehicles older than 15 years. Autorickshaws have been granted an extension of a year on the condition that they submit an affidavit to the Transport Department, promising to replace the two stroke vehicle by a four stroke engine next April.
