The Naga people living in the disputed forest areas along Assam-Nagaland border are liable to be recognized as the permanent residents of these areas besides in other disputed forest areas along the border of Assam with the six other north-eastern States, if a recent circular issued by the State Government comes into force, thanks to the lack of specific details about the disputed lands in the circular. According to the circular, people residing in the reserved forests of Assam since December, 1980, the year the Forest Conservation Act came into force, will be registered as permanent residents of the area.
