In a bid to wrest the political initiative from Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee's Rs 500 crore package for overall development of Asia's largest slum-Dharavi, the Congress-NCP led Democratic Front Government too announced a Rs 5,600 crores special package for the development of the infrastructure in Dharavi.
