Govt wakes up to crumbling heritage, floats national panel

Acting on a directive from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Ministry of Culture today proposed formation of a National Heritage Sites Commission, which will come out with a uniform policy to preserve heritage sites across the country, including those under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Announcing this, Culture Minister Jaipal Reddy said the Commission will be empowered to frame appropriate guidelines for the preservation of heritage sites. This couldn't be more relevant.
