Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda has urged Chief Minister S M Krishna to give effect to a government order issued in 1997 which facilitated regularisation of encroachment of forests in the Malnad region. Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Gowda said in the wake of Supreme Court's recent order on forest land encroachment, poor farmers who have been tilling land from the last 35 years would be losing their livelihood.
