Uttaranchal Forest Minister Nav Prabhat has said that with 65% land under forests, there was great potential for the implementation of Joint Forest Management (JFM) in Uttaranchal. He said the concept of JFM already existed in the state in the form of Panchayat Raj Forests, long before JFM was introduced. As such, there was already a great deal of knowledge available in the state that could be taken advantage of in the implementation of JFM. Nav Prabhat was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a two day national workshop on 'Technological Innovations and Research Advancements for Application in JFM'. The workshop was organised by Indian Council for Forest Research and Education (ICFRE), with the support of FAO, at FRI on 3 February.
