Biodiversity prospecting or exploration, extraction and screening of biological diversity and indigenous knowledge for commerically valuable genetic and biochemical products, particularly with several multinational companies patenting Indian products, has become a heated subject. Now the government wants to buld up protective barriers for such products and ensure that country gets its fair share from such use. The government is considering plans that will include the setting of National Biodiversity Board to regulate the access to these biological riches.
