Green Care Project to be launched in city today

The Forest department has undertaken a massive afforestation drive aimed at planting at least 10 lakh saplings in and around the Guwahati city for arresting flash floods, heavy siltation and erosion, adverse climatic change, change of the soil system, etc. Besides putting a green cover throughout the city, including the encroached and depleted areas of the reserve forests. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will formally launch the plantation programme tiled "Seuj Prakalpa Guwahati' (Green Care Project for Guwahati) at Shiva Nagar near the Express Highway. This intensified afforestation drive to be completed during the season from May to September will be implemented in active cooperation with the district administration, GMC, GMDA, Assam Police, Army units, NGOs, citizens' committees, educational institutions, business houses and the general people.
