'Green' electric car in two years

Tiny fuel cells packed with the eco-friendly hydrogen gas and having the potential to power cars are the current focus of global automobile majors in hot putsuit of designing "green" vehicles that can beat emission problems. Daimler Benz, Shell and Ballard of Canada have just launched an ambitious DM 500 (approx Rs. 1,250-crore) project to develop a prototype version of the dream electric car by the end of 2001, according to Dr. Ian Maxwell, Technology Manager of SHell Research and Technology Centre, Netherlands.
