The city government has decided to remove the slums from the parks. A number of parks have been used in the past for temporarily relocating slums. This decision has been taken by the new government in view of the fast depletion of the green cover in the Capital. At a recent meeting, chief minister Sheila Diskhit viewed the problem of slums and ordered their removal from the green belt. Under the order, MCD officials have been asked to act promptly since a considerable number of parks, under the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) , have been occupied by economically weaker sections, migrants and, often, by unscrupulous elements. However, according to the chief minister, in view of the winter, eviction of the slum dwellers will begin only after the cold has subsided.
