Green protest: Goans join hands to save 37 rain trees

Chipko found its resonance a long way south, when tree-lovers staged creative protests to save some 37 rain trees form the axe. The luxuriant canopy along one of Panaji's up-market boulevards is expected to be felled for road-widening, but drew a crowd of protesters on Sunday. Concern for the environment, flora and fauna has spawned a record number of NGOs in Goa, some of theme doubling up as tour guides for bird watching, crocodile and dolphin spotting trips and other forms of eco-tourism.
