Lieutenant-Governor praises initiative of two NGOs Staff Reporter Delhi's Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna launched a green shopper campaign here on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Khanna said it was a good initiative by two non-government organisations, "Green Forum" and "Chetanalaya", which would distribute jute and cotton shopping bags in Delhi and the National Capital Regions to counter the poly and plastic bag menace. "The two organisations would promote responsible consumerism by forging poor-to-poor collaborations between self-help groups across the country," the L-G said. "There was a need for better coordination between citizens and the Government to discourage people from using plastic in their day-to-day lives." "Even non-government organisations can play an important role in this regard. By the collective efforts of these players, Delhi would be more clean and green and the people would get a more eco-friendly environment to live in," he said. Mr. Khanna said if the citizens become more aware and attentive about their duties in daily affairs it would improve the standard of living in general.
