The final phase of much publicised ' Greenbelt Scheme' taken up in the Chennai city and its suburbs by the Forest Department, seems to have been in a hurry. As part of the last leg of the Union Pollution Control Board funded programme, 35,000 saplings were planted in various places and a large number of them in educational institutions during October-November last.
