Greenies attack pollution program

Environment groups have given the thumbs down to a State Government anti-air pollution program. Environment Victoria yesterday slammed the plan as 'an assault with a feather duster'' on air pollution, while the Australian Conservation Foundation said the Government should be funding 'integrated and convenient public transport''. The groups criticised the Government's pledge of $3.4million to slash emissions, saying it was encouraging more car pollution by allocating $550million to freeway projects in the next financial year. A spokewoman for Environment Victoria, Ms Bronwen Machin, said: 'While the State Government expensively designs our cities and transport systems to maximise pollution, promising us a mere $3.4million on air pollution is truly insulting to the people of Victoria.''
