A tree-planting program began in Handhufushi Resort and Spa, formerly known as Herathere Island Resort, on Wednesday. The resort was taken over by a new management, Yacht Tours, on the first of this month and since then the company has tried to clean up the island and make it more 'green'. The tree-planting program is part of the cleanup and renovation work being carried out at the island by Yacht Tours and students from Muhibbuddin School, Ismlamiyya School, Feydhoo School and Seenu Atoll School participated in the program. The tree-planting program commenced to coincide with the World Environment Day and many varieties of plants and trees were planted all over the island which is over 4km long. In addition to the staff at the resort, many tourists who were visiting the resort also participated in the program. Those who participated in the program were given certificates of appreciation by the management of the resort. There are currently 15 tourists visiting the resort and the management has opened the resort to locals and made many special packages available to them.
