Greenpeace loses case against chemical company

International environmental organisation Greenpeace lost a case against a Gujarat-based chemical manufacturing plant that it had accused of discharging harmful effluents into water. A Gujarat civil court has asked it to cough up damages totalling Rs 48 lakh to Chemie Organics, located at Vapi, one of the biggest chemical manufacturing centres in the country. In the early 1990s, two Greenpeace activists from London, Bob Edwards and Dr. David Santillo, had allegedly visited Vapi and collected samples from two drains carrying discharge from the Chemie plant to Damanganga.
