Greens lament depleting forests, public apathy

The story sounded familiar, even Mumbai's quandary over growing slums and shrinking open spaces. Except this saga was about tribals who had encroached on protected forest land. When forest officers tried to dislodge them, there were protest marches, media campaigns, and politicians, along with other leading lights, declared forest conservation as "anti-people" and "anti-poor".
