Environmentalists have protested against any prospecting operation to be carried on by the public sector Kudramukh Iron Ore Company in the Karnataka National Park area. They have petitioned Karnataka high court and are taking up the matter with the Union environment and forests ministry urging them to issue directions to Karnataka government not to allow the activities to continue in the area and not to renew the prospecting licence which is due to expire. The company has sought its renewal.
