Water level in the city of Dhaka and the suburban areas is going down rapidly due to massive extraction of sub-soil water by Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) through hundreds of deep tubewells daily for the growing number of population. A WASA report on "Static water level measures" also admitted that the water level in the city had gone down gradually over the last few years.
