Maternity clinic doctors and their clients sued the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology for curbing the controversial preimplantation diagnosis of embryos to prevent transmission of genetic diseases. The plaintiffs said the restrictions run counter to the Constitution's guarantee of the right to bear children and pursue happiness. They want the restrictions invalidated and are seeking 77 million yen in damages.
