Growers may be owners of sandalwood trees

Chief Minister of Karnataka S M Krishna today said that the proposal of awarding ownership of sandalwood trees to the grower would be taken up in the next Assembly session. The campaign has been launched jointly by the Forest Department, Karnataka Vana Samvardhana Trust, Mysore City Corporation, MUDA and the above said college to promote tree plantation. "There is no meaning in the argument that grower should hand over the grown up sandalwood tree to the forest department after nurturing it for years. Instead, the grower should have rights on the tree as in the case of neem and teak," chief minister observerd.
