survey: India could be expected to touch the sustainable threshold level of 75 per cent literacy some time between the years 2005 and 2006. This would be far ahead of the previous expectation of around the year 2011.According to a survey conducted by the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) of the National Literacy Mission, India at present was maintaining an annual rate of literacy growth of approximately 2 per cent.If this rate is maintained, India would reach a level of between 66 per cent and 68 per cent by the time of 'decennial census' of 2001.
