VASCO: The officials of Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) inspected the coal handling plant of Adani. Speaking to Herald, GSPCB Chairman Jose Manuel Noronha said they inspected the plant on Monday and directed the company to install Continuous Air Quality Monitoring System to check the pollution level. “Besides directing to install air monitoring stations, we have also directed the company to construct wind breaking wall and install sprinklers. The two companies, Adani and Jindal South West, which are handling coal at the port, are directed to have their fogging machine in place,” Noronha told Herald. Noronha further informed that Adani is allowed to handle 5.2 million tonnes of coal per month, however they are presently handling 4 lakh tonnes per month. “The coal is for local consumption and besides Adani, the Jindal South West Port is also handling coal at the port.” Noronha said the senior environment engineers will conduct surprise visits to the plants to verify if the companies have adhered to the instructions of the GSPCB and to check the level of coal dust pollution.
