Guidelines for stem cell research soon

A task force created by the Department of Biotechnology has evolved draft guidelines for stem cell research in the country and is set to finalise them within six to eight weeks. Speaking to newspersons after the inauguration of the Centre for DNA Finger printing (CDFD) and Sun Microsystems Centre for Excellence in Medical Biotechnology, Dr M.K. Bhan, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, said that the Government is set to consult the National Institutes of Health, USA, which comprises a group of institutions in formulating these guidelines along with the Director General of Indian Council of Medical Research, Dr N.K. Ganguly.
