On the last day of the Budget session on Tuesday, the Gujarat Assembly unanimously adopted a bill replacing the Urban Land (Ceiling and regulation) Act 1976. The Revenue Minister, Mr Vajubhai Vala, and assured that a land bank and a 'shelter fund' for the urban poor would be set up within three months to ensure that land released in six urban areas under the new provisions was utilised for housing the urban poor and not cornered by the land sharks.
