Gujarat dist swamped, 4,000 evacuated

Following heavy rains in the last two days, the Surendranagar district is facing floods. A number of villages in the district have been marooned and more than 4,000 villagers have been evacuated to safer places. Meanwhile, the Government machinery has been carrying out relief and rescue operations in the affected areas with the help of the Army, Ahmedabad and Rajkot fire brigade and SRP jawans. However, no casualty has been reported from the district.
A number of villages of Lakhtar, Limdi and Patdi talukas of the district were marooned in the flood and 5-6 feet deep water was seen in the villages. According to people, nearly 15 lakes and ponds in different villages in the district were breached with three important dams
