Gujarat pollution body slaps notices on Nirma, Indian Rayon

The Gujarat Pollution and Control Board had issued notices to Nirma in February end and to Indian Rayon a forthnight ago, for air and water pollution caused by their units in Bhavnagar and Veraval respectively. However, it has been learnt that both units have been functioning uninterruptedly. "As per the notices, if the two plants fail to comply to the instructions within 15 days, GEB will terminate their power supplies forcing closure of the units," said Amit Jethwa, president of Gir Nature Youth Club who brought the issue to the notice of GPCB. When contacted Sanjeev Tyagi, member secretary of GPCB said the companies were found violating pollution norms. While K V Bhanujan, chairman of GPCB said, "All I can say is that the companies have been issued notices and they are working towards it."
