The Gujarat government has reportedly strongly objected to the two-day visit of the World Bank sponsored World Commission on Dams (WCD), which is holding a hearing in Bhopal on September 21-22. The government perceives in it a threat to the Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP). The WCD will be reviewing among other things, the large dams in the country. The presence of anti-Narmada project activists Medha Patkar and Lakshmichand Jain on it has unnerved the government.
