Gurgaons reality check on handling disasters

Just how wellequipped is Gurgaon, a city that houses 450 highrises, to handle natural or manmade disasters? The District Disaster Management Authority has decided to carry out a mock exercise at DLF City Centre on November 29 to assess this. The millennium city's disaster-preparedness was spotlighted in a meeting organised by the district administration in association with the National Disaster Management Authority on Monday. Disaster management specialist and exercise coordinator B K Khanna felt that Gurgaon is vulnerable to multiple disasters. He pointed out that casualties could spiral in mishaps that occur in malls and multi-storeyed buildings.
