According to a team of chemical engineers in Vadodara, Gujarat, human hair can efficiently separate oil from water. And industries can use the research to separate oil from factory effluents. Researchers including Professor Z V P Murthy and two undergraduate students Gautam Kaushik and Ritesh Suratwala, who made a research at the Dharmsinh Desai Institute of Technology in Nadiad, say, "Industries currently spend a lot of money on chemical methods for separating oil from factory effluents to meet pollution standards. The human hair is cheap and it can be used for the same purpose." The paper was recently published in the Indian Journal of Chemical Technology.
