Half of our mammals facing extinction

By 2020, almost half of all mammals and a quarter of all birds in Peninsular Malaysia will face extinction. According to a report entitled Capacity Building and Strengthening of the Protected Areas System in Peninsular Malaysia -- A Masterplan, the number of threatened animals in the peninsula had tripled between 1986 and 1996, reaching 38 species, which is 18% of all mammals.
