A study by Buwal, the Swiss environment agency, has found that agricultural pesticides are contaminating a majority of groundwater sources. The survey looked at results from 390 monitoring stations nationwide and found traces of pesticides and herbicides at more than half of them. These substances can stay in groundwater sources for a long time, taking years to break down naturally.
