Hundreds of farmers and residents under the banner of Hansua Bachhao Samiti held a demonstration on Monday demanding withdrawal of permission granted to Posco to draw water from the Hansua river. The demonstrators also included activists of anti- Posco outfit Posco Pratirodha Sangram Samiti (PPSS). Addressing the protest meeting at Nagari under Erasama block, PPSS leader Abhya Sahoo criticized the State Government’s decision that allows South Korean steel major Posco to draw 13,400 cusec water every day from the Hansua river for its construction purpose. He cautioned that if Posco draws water from the Hansua river, irrigation of the area would be badly affected. Sahu warned of intensifying the agitation if the order was not scrapped.
