Haryana Governor Dr A.R. Kidwai and Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today called for a check on the use of oxytocin and waste water on plants at a meeting of the State Environment Protection Council of Haryana, held under council chairman Dr A.R. Kidwai at Raj Bhavan today. Reuse and recycling of industrial and domestic waste water by making laying of dual lines mandatory for all new buildings to be constructed in the state was one of the measures suggested for tackling waste water menace. Observing that the problem of recharging groundwater should be taken up seriously, especially for southern Haryana, where the water table has gone very low, the Governor said large tanks and a big recharging web should be prepared at different places of the state. Farmers of the state were being educated to make use of sprinkler and drip irrigation methods in agriculture for judicious use of irrigation water for agriculture and horticulture, it was stated. The Chief Minister said the subsidy to farmers on sprinkler and drip irrigation methods should be increased up to 90 per cent so that maximum use of these methods could be made by the farmers in the state. It was also decided at the meeting that artificial rain water harvesting system adopted by all the existing government buildings, schools, colleges, universities and educational institutions in the state would be monitored and implemented properly with a view to recharging ground water. The issues of bio-medical waste management, air pollution and proper implementation of existing labour laws, rules and regulations for keeping the environment clean and healthy in the state were also discussed. Environment friendly * Setting up bio-gas plants in gaushalas. * Check on unauthorised dyeing units. * Use of plastic carry bags for carpeting, re-carpeting of roads. * Inspection of outsourcing agencies for disposal of bio-medical waste in hospitals. * Implementation of bio-medical waste rules be made mandatory in hospitals, nursing homes and dispensaries. * Conservation of water bodies, wetlands.
