HC asks ASI for status report on city monuments

The Delhi High Court today asked the Centre to take a decision within six weeks on the manpower and funds sought by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to effectively perform its statutory duty of preserving ancient monuments in the national Capital.A Division Bench of Chief Justice B C Patel and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul issued the direction after ASI counsel Sanjay Jain submitted that ASI's requirement of about Rs 5 crore per annum and 576 personnel, including 684 monument attendants, had already been submitted to the government.The Bench asked the Culture Secretary and ASI Director General to file compliance affidavit by October 19, the next date of hearing.
