The Delhi High Court asked the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to demolish all illegal structures across the city in four weeks. Observing that there was a strong nexus between MCD officials and the builders, a Division Bench of Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma sought a compliance report from the civic body by January 18, 2006. The sweeping order to demolish an estimated 18,000 illegal structures in the Capital was made after the court found that its earlier order with regard to 36 illegal structures in Patel Nagar here was flouted by the officials.
