Bangalore: The High Court on Thursday ordered issue of notices to the Irrigation Department officials for violating the court order to peg the leakage of canal of Kestur Post in Maddur taluk. The petitioner, K Madhegowda, who filed the civil contempt petition stated that the court direction dated April 8, 2005 to repair the leakage of the canal is yet to be complied with. The canal water had inundated the 2.26 acres of land belonging to Madhegowda, which was granted to him by the Government under the land grant rules in 1979 and was in the low lying region of the left bank of the canal. When the officials failed to act upon, Madhegowda approached the Court. The court directed the officials to repair the canal within six months. However when the officials failed to do so, Madhegowda filed a civil contempt case before the court. The High Court on hearing the matter has ordered notices to Secretary, Irrigation Department, Chief Engineer, Irrigation division Mysore, Executive Engineer, VC, Mandya and Assistant Executive Engineer, VC, Mandya.
