The Kerala High Court directed the District Collector, Wayanad, to evict all recent encroachers from Sugandhagiri Project area and allot the land to eligible landless tribal people. This should be done within six months. The court, however, clarified that if any crop is ripe for harvest the cultivator should be allowed to take the same. The direction was issued by Justice C N Ramachandran Nair while disposing of a writ petition filed by Sugandhagiri Bhoosamrakshana Samithi, Vythiri, and its office-bearers, challenging the eviction of the occupants of the project area and to direct the Government to allot the land to the existing land holders.
