Ahmedabad: The Gujarat high court on Thursday issued notices to the state government, Centre and the Adani group owned Mundra Port Special Economic Zone (MPSEZ) and Kutch district collector over two PILs by villagers alleging encroachment on village land.
A PIL filed by residents of Bitta and Luni villages in Abdasa block in Kutch have claimed that MPSEZ’s proposed solar power plant is still under consideration, but the company has begun encroaching upon private and panchayat land. Their counsel, Hashim Qureshi, contended that though authorities are yet to approve the establishment of the power plant, the company has begun building roads and houses on land which is not allotted to it. People are being forced to sell their land at throwaway prices, he alleged.
A division bench sought an explanation in this regard from concerned authorities and asked the collector to conduct an inquiry into the allegations and submit a report by December 8.
ONGC gets HC notice over multi-crore scam: Gujarat HC issued notices to ONGC, CVC and the Centre over a PIL alleging a multi-crore scam involving top office bearers of ONGC and sought a thorough probe.
The PIL mentioned that the then CMD of ONGC — R S Sharma, current CMD Sudhir Vasudeva, and other directors and senior officers had helped ONGC Mahila Samithi headed by Sharma’s wife, Rashmi, in collecting Rs.3.25 crores as donation from 49 multi-national contractors in ONGC Offshore in Mumbai. The donations were collected in the name of charity. However, the PIL alleges that since accepting donations was against the rules of ONGC, the contractors benefited from ONGC in their contracts.
