Anyone found cutting a tree without permission from the state pollution control board (PCB) wil be arrested, the High Court environment bench ruled today. With no existing rule against the illegal felling of trees in an urban environment, the bench comprising Justice B P Banerjee and Justice Ronojit Kumar Mitra categorically stated that all trees stand protected and cannot be touched unless absolutely necessary and with PCB permission.
