HC permits felling of only dangerous trees

Striking a balance between the issue of public safety and preservation of forest cover, Himachal Pradesh High Court today allowed the state Government to fell only precariously dangerous trees in Shimla.
The court also directed the government to ensure that cutting down of trees be suitably compensated by plantation of at least four trees, in lieu of each tree felled in the larger public interest. The orders were issued following on a special petition filed by the state government seeking the High Court
