HC seeks explanation from U’khand Govt

In the case of green trees being axed on a plot of land bought by DGP BS Sidhu in reserve forest area on Old Mussoorie Road, Rajpur, Uttarakhand High Court has ordered stay on charge sheet filed by the police in the local court against forest department officers and sought explanation from State Government and police department on this issue. The HC has also asked the State as to why should the case not investigated by a special investigation team. Moreover, the National Green Tribunal, New Delhi has set final date of the hearing on this case on July 3. Sidhu had lodged an FIR against Mussoorie divisional forest office Dheeraj Pandey and others including department staff and contractors, the investigating officer had submitted a chargesheet in the court of ACJM Simranjeet Kaur in the third week of June. The IO had named the DFO, Sharad Sood, Satish Gupta, Ved Mahawar, Virendra Dutt Joshi, Kuldeep Negi, Jagmohan Rawat and Sri Prasad Saklani as accused in this case. Moreover, suspended sub-inspector Nirvikar had addressed Press conference in Dehradun earlier in May this year accusing the DGP of attempting to influence the police inquiry into the purchase of the plot in question by Sidhu. It should be mentioned here that the DGP had purchased a piece of land on Old Mussoorie Road in Dehradun which the Forest Department asserted was reserve forest land. Sidhu had lodged an FIR against Anarwala residents Ved Prakash Mahawar and Satish Gupta, Rajawala resident and forest guard Sri Prasad Saklani and Mussoorie DFO Dheeraj Pandey in Rajpur Police Station on July 9, 2013.
