HC strikes down 1990 slum policy

In a significant judgment, Delhi High Court has stuck down an official policy devised in 1990 for relocating slum-dwellers on the Government land. The court has fixed January 31, 1990 as the cut-off date for making a slum-dweller eligible for alternate site in the relocated areas. The judgment said strict verification should be carried out to determine real claimants. The court has given time to the Government to complete the exercise of verifying eligible persons by June 30, 2003. The court's order will effect the relocation of plots to slum-dwellers who have encroached upon the Government land in the Capital.
