Squatters at Rabindra Sarobar were directed today to submit memoranda stating their willingness to vacate railway land with their family members according to the conditions set by the state government directly before the Division Bench of Mr VS Sirpurkar, Chief Justice and Mr Justice Ashok Ganguly of Calcutta High Court on Wednesday. "Otherwise, there will be very serious steps,' the Division Bench observed. The court took umbrage after finding some pre-conditions in the affidavit of the squatters' representatives at a time when the state government planned to rehabilitate 2000-odd squatters in Nonadanga, Kolkata. Their submission that construction of huts at the proposed rehabilitation site till the coming up of the high-rises that will house the residents of the erstwhile squatters' colony be allowed, was the pre-condition which drew the court's ire.
