They once grazed on a swathe of land stretching from Myanmar to Afghanistan. But over the years, dwindling forests have driven the Great One Horned Rhinoceros into just a few pockets of Nepal and eastern India, where poachers are hunting them to extinction. A variety of other animals, from horned owls and Himalayan black bears to tigers and snow leopards are suffering the same fate. In one of the poorest regions of the world, they are the victims of an annual $6 billion global racket in wildlife products - the second largest illegal trade after narcotics.
