Molten volcanic rock could be used to produce electricity in future. A team from Sandia National Laboratory in --Albuquerque, New Mexico , has begun exploratory drilling at Mammoth Lakes in California. It plans to find out how deep the molten rock, known as magma, lies and how it could be used to provide energy. According to John Finger, co- manager of the project at sandia's geothermal research department, the energy contained in magma deposits around the world could easily power the planet many times over.
