Heat wave in city, 2 die in Kakinada

May 27: The city is witnessing heat wave conditions in the last two days as the temperatures soared to 44.50C on Thursday. Heat wave conditions are prevailing from the morning forced people to remain indoors. On Wednesday, the city recorded 44 degrees celcius. Under the influence of sultry heat, women, children and the aged were bearing the brunt. Power cuts are also causing further trouble. As the weathermen forecast further heat wave conditions in the days to come, the general public are getting worried. Meanwhile, the prevailing heat wave condition has claimed two lives in Kakinada region in East Godavari on Thursday, as temperatures topped more than 44 degrees Celsius in several areas in the region. The victims were identified as K. Satyanarayana, 53, of Injaram, and D. Venkataramana, 54, of G. Vemavaram. According to sources, Satyanarayana, a washerman died of sunstroke at his village outskirts on Thursday morning. Similarly, Venkataramana, a NREGS worker, died when he was doing the digging work of a pond under the NREGS at G. Vemavaram. The VROs concerned had informed the deaths to the Tallarevu tahsildar, Mr Kesava Rao, who in turn brought the matter to the district administration. An official of the Met department told this newspaper that the heatwave conditions might continue for a couple of days because there was no chance of rain soon. The Met officials further said that it had hardly recorded such high temperatures in Kakinada region.
