he incessant rains and flash floods claimed five lives in different parts of Nellore even as authorities opened seven gates of the Somasila dam to release heavy inflows.
D. Ankaiah and his wife Kullamma drowned in the Buckinham canal near Dugarajupatnam when they went fishing into the canal on Wednesday night. The victims belong to Kondurupalem village in Vakadu mandal. In another incident, a father and son were washed away in flash floods to Pambaleru stream near Ananthasagaram late on Wednesday night. They have been identified as S.K. Khajavali, 38, and Taj Mohmmed 13. Another 75-year-old woman too succumbed in the Doravarisathram mandal.
Meanwhile, according to a latest report of the IMD and government, 13 districts have recorded excess rainfall and major reservoirs have been filled to the brim thanks to copious South-West and North East rainfall till date. Srikakulam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Krishna, Guntur, Anantapur, Kadapa, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Khammam received excess rainfall.
Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, Medak, Warangal, Ranga Reddy and Nalgonda received normal rainfall. Mahbubnagar and Kurnool received deficit rainfall.
