At least one person was killed and scores of villages inundated in the torrential rains that lashed the state since Monday night. All three regions of the state received heavy rains with Nalgonda district being the worst hit. Several tanks breached and rivulets overflowed leaving the main and artillery roads in the district under water.

The incident of death occurred when B. Anjaiah, a farmer in A.T. Tanda in Nalgonda, died of electrocution when he tried to retrieve a pump set in the rains. Four others had a miraculous escape after their car was washed away in gushing flood waters of the Naseempet rivulet. The Met office has predicted isolated heavy rains in Telangana and in the coastal districts of Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore districts besides parts of Rayalaseema during the next 48 hours. Kadiri in Anantapur received the highest rainfall of 9 cm followed by Chittoor, 8 cm, and 7 cm each in Avanigadda in Krishna district, Rapalle (Guntur), Suryapet (Nalgonda) and Dhone in Kurnool district.

The state’s road network was badly affected due to the rains. Traffic was disrupted when water overflowed on to the roads between Suryapet and Janagaon and the RTC suspended services to several areas where rivulets breached. In several mandals, particularly at Mote in Nalgonda district, paddy and cotton crops were inundated. Meanwhile, the Jurala reservoir continued to receive heavy inflows from the Almatti and Narayanpur, forcing the authorities to lift 23 gates.

The inflow was as high as 2.05 lakh cusecs at one stage resulting in the release of 1.62 lakh cusecs to the Srisailam reservoir. Heavy downpours in the catchment area also brought copious inflows of floodwater into the Srisailam reservoir, raising the water level to 848.3 ft.
